East Union employed a suffocating defense to take over first place in Valley Oak League boys soccer Saturday with a 3-1 win over host Sierra on the back soccer field at Sierra High.

“We dominated from the beginning,” Lancers coach Edgar Zelaya said. We practiced hard for this game.

“We passed the ball well. Our defense dropped back and it was really, really good.”

The two teams traded goals in the first half with Eddie Aguilar heading in a goal for the Timberwolves (6-1 VOL, 12-5-1 overall) and Jesus Hurtado taking an assist from Daniel Gomez for the Lancers (5-0-1, 10-1-3).

The second half belonged to East Union. Hurtado again scored on an assist from Gomez and Jacob Garcia capped the scoring on an assist from Victor Amorim.

Enrique Garcia tallied three saves for the Lancers.
