EU rolls into postseason with sweep of Sierra

East Union ended the regular season strong on tuesday, sweeping host rival Sierra 25-13, 25-14, 25-18.

The Lancers (9-5 Valley Oak League, 17-8 overall) had scoring runs in each set to take comfortable leads. In the first, Jordyn Posz (14 assists, two aces) served the match’s first eight points and never trailed from there. Vanessa Cuellar (seven kills, four digs) later served eight in a row to give East Union a 17-6 cushion in the second game. In the third, the Lancers held a 20-9 lead at one point before finally putting the finishing touches of their impressive victory.

East Union was able to get all of its players into the match. Haley England led the way with nine kills and seven digs. Mariah Jeffery added eight kills and two blocks. Melissa King contributed 21 assists to go with five kills.

“Overall, I was very pleased with the energy that the girls brought to the court and our aggressive serving,” East Union coach rich Posz said. “We will need to have this to be able to compete in the playoffs.”

The postseason begins Thursday. Brackets will be released by the Sac-Joaquin Section today.



Manteca 3, Kimball 0

TRACY — Melissa Hansen served the final four points in the first two games, and the VOL runner-up Buffaloes (11-3, 15-8) rolled to a 25-20, 25-20, 25-17 sweep.

Morgan Miramontes and Payton Reis paced the attack with nine and eight kills, respectively. Freshman setters Kacy Bolding and Kaitlyn Morenzone (six kills) distributed 17 and 12 assists. Tawny Deerinck led the back row with 10 digs, and Taylor Bays added eight.

LATHROP — The visiting Cougars (6-8, 11-13) capped their season with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 win.

Jennifer Viguerias had a busy night, as she accumulated 20 assists and 20 digs. Amaya Finley pounded 12 kills, Iris Murphy had 24 digs and Audre Tan registered three aces.
