East Union High’s wrestling team had a busy two days last week in Stockton.

First was the Bear Creek Team Tournament Friday, as the Lancers started 2-0 before settling for a fourth-place finish. On Saturday, five individuals came through with top-three medals.

Josh Byrd, Peter Barrington and William Catineau were the top three performers over the two days. In the individual tournament, Byrd placed third in the heavyweight division, Barrington topped the 126-pound field and Catineau was the runner-up at 182.

Standout Sarah Phillips ruled the 108-pound circuit in the girls tournament, winning all four of her matches by pinfall. Mariah Wheeler took second at 114.

Phillips’ third bout in the round-robin tourney was the fastest, as she stopped Emmalee D’Angelo of Golden Sierra in 14 seconds.  Phillips secured the title in her final match which was also her most competitive. She pinned Stagg’s Sky Dawn Wilson-Leggett in 3:07.

The Lancers went 2-2 in dual action Friday. They first cruised past Franklin 51-24 and Rodriguez 45-29 before falling to North Section powerhouse Paradise, 66-15. Ceres beat East Union in the third-place showdown, 48-30.

Barrington went 4-0 in the duals, winning each with pins. Catineau was also undefeated, winning twice by forfeiture and once via pin. Byrd stuck his first three opponents in the dual tournament but fell to Ceres’ Armando Morales by decision, 1-6.
