EU stays perfect in VOL play

Jesus Hurtado scored one goal and assisted  on two Monday to lead East Union to a 5-2 Valley Oak League boys soccer win in less-than-ideal field conditions over Weston Ranch at Dino Cunial Field.

“The field conditions were horrible,” Lancers coach Ronnie Green said. “It didn’t help our style of play which is possession, a lot of dribbling and passing.” 

Hurtado was part of a three-goal blitz in five minutes for the Lancers (4-0 VOL, 12-3-1overall). In the 17th minute, Oscar Soto took a pass from Johnny Quintana and converted it for a 1-0 lead. In the 20th minute, Hurtado assisted Jacob Garcia and two minutes later Hurtado assisted Soto for a 3-0 lead that would stand the rest of the half.

One minute into the second half, Hurtado got one into the net on an assist from Jacob Garcia. Soto scored late in the game on an assist from Tyler Sawyer. 

“We came out really flat in the first half and when you do that against a good team like East Union, they’ll make you pay for it,” Cougars coach Francisco Cisneros said. “In the second half we played well in some stretches but played really sloppy defensively. 

Robert Gonzalez scored in his fourth consecutive league game for Weston Ranch (3-1, 3-8-2). He scored in the second half on an assist by Vidal Garcia to make the score 4-1. Gonzalez was assisted by Devon Alvarenga for his second goal of the game.

Frosh/Soph

Sierra 7, Manteca 3 

Adib Guedoir blasted five into the net for the Timberwolves and teammate Manny Magana tallied five assists.

Kevin Hernandez and Francisco Becerra each added a goal for Sierra and David Garza and Ethan Rullan both had an assist.

 

East Union 4,

Weston Ranch 0

The Lancers uses a balanced attack with Alex Arroyo, Noe Martinez, Jonathan Ponce and Luis Ruvalcaba each scoring a goal.

Sammy Diaz shelled out two assists for East Union.
