EU track sweeps Central Catholic

The East Union track and field team won at every level in a Valley Oak League dual meet with visiting Central Catholic on Wednesday.

It was most competitive at varsity boys, with East Union bolting to a 74-62 victory to improve to 2-4.

Cody Keener keyed the Lancers with points in the high jump (first place), 4x100 (first), 200 (second) and 100 (third). Taariq Davis was the top finisher in the sprints and anchored the 4x100. Cedrick Harris took first in the long and triple jumps.

The East Union girls (3-3) routed Central Catholic 112-13 behind solid contributions from Alyssa Drew, who competed in the 200 (first), 4x100 (first), 100 hurdles (second) and 100 (second). Jordan McNeal won the 100 and anchored the winning 4x100. Patricia Tajii triumphed in both hurdle events and capped the 1-2-3 East Union finish in the 100. Kelley Higginson took first in the 800 and 1,600.

East Union’s frosh-soph boys coasted, 117-16 with Josh Douma (200, 400, 4x400), Daniel Reed (400, 800, 4x400) and Jesse Anzar (high jump, triple jump).

The frosh-soph girls won also won decisively, 89-15. Nicole Robertson (100, long jump, 4x100), DeJohna Pryor (discus, shot put) and Michaela Pangburn (200, high jump. 4x100, 100) were point leaders.



GOLF

Manteca 256,
Weston Ranch 280

The two teams squared off twice this week to end regular-season play in the VOL. On Wednesday, Manteca’s Kyle Howard and Austin Thao of Weston Ranch were co-medalist with 44s at Manteca Park Golf Course. Dylan Haro carded the next best score with a 51.

The Buffaloes (4-10) also won Tuesday at Van Buskirk Golf Course in Stockton but by forfeit, as Weston Ranch didn’t field a full squad. Howard finished 5-over-par 41, and Alex Baker scored a 47 to anchor Manteca’s team total of 250. Javier Gomez and Thao each had a 45 for Weston Ranch.

Up next is the VOL Tournament next Tuesday at Saddle Creek Golf Course.



Ripon Christian 213,
Turlock Christian 238

Visiting Turlock Christian had the two scorers at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club, but the Southern League-leading Knights (8-0) secured the win with depth.

Logun Lundquist was medalist with a 49, and Kamryn Vogt turned in a 40. Ripon Christian’s Andrew Manes and Jesse DeRousse produced 41s for Ripon Christian. Kyle Colyn (42), Ryan Garcia (43) and Austin Alger (46) followed.
