EUs Reindel pins outstanding wrestler honors at Bear Creek

East Union finished second Saturday at the Bear Creek Invitational in Stockton and for the second year in a row the Lancers’ Jaysen Reindel was voted the outstanding upper-weight wrestler. 

 A sophomore, Reindel (220 pounds) was joined by teammates Alan Huerta (152) and Joel Melena (182) atop the medal stand with first-place finishes. Ryan Bussberg (113) finished second, Jason Betlej (126), Damen Cabanas (138) and Ruben Gallegos (160) finished third and Apollo Holmes (195) was fourth. 

 Bay Area 52 Tournament (Castro Valley)

 Sierra’s Vincent Marquez (126) went 4-1 and finished third. 

 Placing for the Timberwolves were Tevita Latu (220, 2-2, fifth) and David Ketner (160, 3-1, seventh). Jordan Dollar (138) and Jackson Rusconi also competed for Sierra.

 Fehlman/Baxter Duals (Hollister)

 Ripon went 2-3 on Saturday.

 Tristan Smith (285), Diego Moreno (160) and Javier Hernandez (145) were 5-0 for the Indians. 

 “It was definitely tough,” Ripon coach Glen White said. “We wrestled Atascadaro, Hollister, College Park and Clovis. 

 “If we would have had our whole team we may have done better, but I was pretty happy overall.”
