Evans advances to D5 finals in sprints

TURLOCK — Amanda Evans clocked qualifying times for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V finals in two events Tuesday at Stanislaus State.
The Ripon High senior placed second in her heat with a time of 12.91 seconds in the 100-meter dash during the preliminaries, good for the seventh seeded. She later finished the 200 in 27.06, which was the third best time among Division V competitors.
The top five finishers from the combined Division IV and V results advance to the SJS Masters meet held May 25-26 at Elk Grove High. Athletes can also qualify by matching or surpassing at-large marks.
Other Indians making Thursday’s final heats in track events are Roland Davis (110 hurdles, sixth, 16.26), Kayla Jacklich (800, fourth, 2:28.76), Ryan Dagget (300 hurdles, eighth, 44.85) and the 4x400 boys and 4x400 girls relay teams.
Seneca Rubianes was Ripon’s top performer in field events. Although she did not qualify for Masters, she took second in the pole vault with a mark of 8 feet, 6 inches and scored six points for the Lady Indians in the team competition. The top four placers in each finals are awarded medals.
The track finals begin with the Division IV girls 4x100 at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Field events start at 3.
