Two three-year varsity players from Ripon High’s girls basketball team were named to the All-Trans Valley League team.
For the Ripon boys, both of their point guards were honored, one of them a freshman.
Seniors Kelsey Alexander and Morgan Carrico were the Lady Indians’ top honorees after leading the team to a 9-17 overall record and 5-7 in league. Ripon came up a win shy of returning to the postseason.
The 5-foot-9 Alexander emerged as Ripon’s top scorer and 3-point shooter but missed six games with an ankle injury. She averaged 12.2 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Alexander had two of her best efforts in near-upsets of runner-up Riverbank (9-3, 22-5), first scoring 22 points in a competitive 50-42 loss and then amassing 24 points and 12 rebounds in a 47-44 overtime heartbreaker.
Carrico was Ripon’s second-leading scorer at 9.4 points per game. She and Alexander helped the Indians capture their first TVL title in eight years as juniors. Sophomore guards Jill Jamero and Ellie Waters earned honorable mention.
Modesto Christian’s Robb Spencer is the TVL girls Coach of the Year. The Crusaders are competing for the CIF Division IV state title against Santa Barbara this Friday at Sleep Train Arena.
Ripon’s boys squad reached the postseason with a 6-6 TVL record, 8-20 overall and was led by the point guard tandem of senior Chase DePrue and freshman Cole Stevens.
Stevens, a freshman, paced the Indians in scoring (12 ppg) and 3-point field goals made (60). He fired a season-high 28 points while burying 5 of 12 3-pointers in a league game against Hilmar.
DePrue averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.4 blocks for Ripon. His all-around skill was on display in a win over Hughson, as he recorded 15 points, seven assists, six steals and three blocks.
Ripon 6-foot-7 center Derek Hickman (10.6 points, 7.4 rebounds) made the honorable-mention list.
Modesto Christian had four all-league, first-team selections, including MVP and Pacific commit Anthony Townes. The Crusaders end their eight-year reign in the TVL undefeated. Modesto Christian joins the Division I Modesto Metro Conference for basketball only next year.
