The Sac-Joaquin Section Swimming Championship trials ushered in the close of the 2011 season for all area swimmers after the boys wrapped up their races Friday at Tokay High.

Ripon High’s Derek Price, Ryan Jessop and Cory Winter were all able to improve on their best times, but could not extend their season into the championship finals. Price competed in three events, taking his time down a few ticks in each of the three challenges.

Price turned in a respectable time of 1:01.52 in the 100-back, improving on his time over a second, and also lowered his 100-fly and 100-breast times during the meet.

Teammate Jessop improved his 100-free time and Winter improved in both the 200-IM and the 100-fly.

“They all seemed pretty happy with their times,” Ripon head coach Eric Zador said. “They were all pleased and they’re definitely looking forward to next year.

“Ryan did really well; he turned in some of his best times of the season.”

Manteca High landed a quartet to the sections, but the team of Kevin Craighead, Joey Grijalva, Trevor Garner and Stephen Ruble will not compete in their relay due to a pair of the crew heading south for the Manteca High senior trip to Disneyland.

Sierra High qualified Tim Cornish, John Osborn, Vicente Castra, Nick Jamero, Zac DeGroot, Matt Elliot and Brandon Castro, but none of the Timberwolves advanced into the section finals.
