First-place East Union limits Oakdale to 5 points

The Lady Lancers stayed atop of the Valley Oak League standings by thumping Oakdale 55-5 at Dalben Center Friday.

East Union (4-0, 14-2) held a 44-3 advantage with five minutes left in third.

“We stopped pressing early in the first half and played our reserves,” said Lancers coach Jim Agostini.

Oakdale’s points came via free throws.

Tia Tu’uga led all scorers with 16 points. Kristen Piasecki and Shalane Jackson both netted nine.

The Lancers will play host to Sonora on Wednesday.

Manteca 68, Sonora 43

The Buffaloes (4-0, 15-1) played with intensity, capitalized on turnovers and delivered from beyond the arc at Sonora.

Manteca coach Andrea Hiatt also credited a balanced scoring attack led by Karleasha Thompson, who had 12, and Jasmine Odell, who chipped in with 10.

Mikayla Hasal had nine points and eight assists. Mia Ramirez also had nine while Brianna Bell and Jaqi Gutierrez both finished with eight.

“It’s always good when you can come away with win at Sonora,” Hiatt said.

Ahead 17-12, the Buffaloes blew game open in the second quarter by staging a 22-9 run.

In addition, Manteca was able to exploit the Wildcat zone defense by burying six 3s.

Weston Ranch 74, Lathrop 33

The Cougars (3-1, 12-4) stormed out to a 25-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

By half time, they led 47-18.

Leticia Infante led Weston Ranch with 16 points. Jakia Richmond added 11.

Lathrop (0-4, 3-12) was paced by Jazlyn Simon, who finished with 18 points and four assists. Celina DeSantis had seven.

“We have to do better job against a quick team like Weston Ranch,” said Lathrop coach Ed Fang.

Southern League

Ripon Christian 63, Denair 25

Morgan Alger led the Knights with 15 points in Thursday’s Southern League game against visiting Denair.

Jenny Wickham chipped in with 12 while Mikaela Alger had 11 points and 11 boards.

Ripon Christian (3-0, 10-2) had the game under control, leading 22-3 after the first quarter and 34-10 at the break.

The Knights will take on defending league champs Turlock Christian on Tuesday.

Sophomore

East Union 45, Oakdale 41

Kayla Torio had 14 and Marina Sayler dropped in 13 to help lead the Lancers past the visiting Mustangs.

Torio’s jumper with 24 seconds remaining broke a tie game, with Sayler’s free throws clinching the game.

Freshmen

Weston Ranch 47, Lathrop 32

Down 25-23 at half, the Spartans were unable to get any closer to the unbeaten Cougars.

Lathrop (2-2, 7-5) was led by Perla Vargas, who finished with nine points. Lauren Collins and Stephanie Rasdas contributed five points each.
