FLAG FOOTBALL: WAC-leading Lathrop too much for winless Grace Davis

Lathrop can now shift its focus on avenging its lone loss in the Western Athletic Conference after throttling winless Grace Davis 40-7 at Bennie Gatto Field on Monday.

The Spartans (8-1, 13-2) next faces Ceres on Wednesday and will look to improve their chances at claiming a first league title.

Jaleiyah Ray contributed in different ways Monday, scoring one receiving touchdown, one rushing touchdown and a two-point try. She totaled 65 yards of offense, and highlighted the defense with an interception.

Quarterback Luz DeLuna completed four touchdowns passes, one each to Tianna Gonzalez, Faith Allen and Moira Ramones, Abby Renteria added a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

Dayanna Martinez paced the defense with five tackles, a pass deflection and a sack. Allen also recorded five tackles.

Lathrop 13, G. Davis 12

Avaihna Calderon (7-of-12, 112 yards) linked up with Ailyn Alcaraz and Madilynn Narungary (three receptions, 72 yards) for touchdown passes of 8 and 55 yards, respectively.

Jaqueline Avalos anchored the defense with five tackles and three sacks. Arlette Quiroz chipped in three tackles and an interception.
