Freshman helps lift Manteca past CC

Freshman Therese Ferral stepped up in a big way for Manteca on Monday, tallying 12 service points and eight aces while filling in for injured starter Kacy Bolding in the Buffaloes’ 25-16, 25-21, 25-23 victory over visiting Central Catholic.

Bolding, who had seven digs and five assists in limited action, sprained her ankle over the weekend during the Stockton Classic. Ferral served six straight points to help Manteca (10-1 Valley Oak League, 19-7 overall) break away in the opening set.

Payton Reis accumulated 11 kills and seven digs to pace the offense. Rhiannon Genilla added four kills, six digs and five aces. Kaitlyn Morenzone distributed 22 assists to go with five kills and six digs.

 

Lathrop 3, Kimball 0

LATHROP — The Spartans (7-4, 11-8) got big blocks from Mary Cotton to stave off Kimball (5-6, 12-14) 25-19, 25-25, 25-23 and remain in contention for a postseason berth.

Cotton (three kills, four blocks) ended the second set with one of those blocks and had another that gave Lathrop match point. Malia Akers (four kills, three assists two aces), Juliana Denning (five aces) Jahsita Fa’alii (12 kills), Krystal Tempra (16 digs), Myani Thornton (11 digs) and Karina Chavez (nine digs, 22 assists) were other Spartans standouts.

 

Sophomore

East Union 2,

Oakdale 0

The Lancers swept 25-20, 25-16 for a rare win over Oakdale.

Meikayla Surnip (eight kills, four digs), Melissa Scogna (five kills, four digs), Sam Snyder (11 assists) and Esme Calvillo (four assists) led the way.

 

C. Catholic 2,

Manteca 0

Manteca (7-4, 14-6) dropped a 15-25, 13-25 decision to visiting Central Catholic.

Julia Moreno rapped three kills, and Olga Perez finished with four digs.

 

Kimball 2, Lathrop 0

LATHROP — Rylie Asuncion hammered four kills, Khiya Thornton had two and Nicole Vasconcellos served a pair of aces in Lathrop’s 17-25, 20-25 defeat.

LATHROP — Ke’mya Barnett registered six kills, two aces and six digs, but the Spartans dropped a 25-11, 22-25, 11-15 heartbreaker.

Simranjeet Kaur contributed four kills and six digs. Crispa Ballesteros turned in 11 assists, four aces and four digs.
