Giants edge Brewers in majors’ action for Northgate league

Tyler Watkins scampered home from third in the bottom of the sixth after Alijah Scott put the ball in play, giving the Giants their fourth one-run game of the year, downing the Brewers 6-5 in Northgate majors’ action.

 That was Watkins’ third run of the game, having walked twice and been hit once. Scott was 2 for 3. 

 With the Giants leading 2-1 in the third,  Adan Rosas doubled and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Isaiah Yanez (double, RBI). Shane Lewis and Brady Alves then walked with two  outs and Anthony Villegas drove in Lewis,  pushing the lead to 4-1.  

 Trailing 5-3, the Brewers tied the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Cash Lee (3 for 4, two doubles, three RBI) and an RBI single by Davien Fagundes.  Rudy Barney was 3 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run for the Brewers.  

 Adan Rosas started on the hill for the Giants and struck out four in 2.2 innings of work.  Collins Schluer relieved with the bases loaded in the third and got out of the jam with a strikeout.  Isaiah Yanez pitched the final 2.1 innings for the Giants and struck out five.

 

Northgate Giants 10, Lathrop Reds 9

 The Giants scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the come from behind victory.  

 Rosas (3 for 4, RBI, two runs) and Yanez started the winning rally with back-to-back singles to open the frame and both came around to score on wild pitches with Yanez touching home for the game winner.

 Rosas came on in relief in the second inning with the bases loaded and no one out and got out of the jam without a run scoring.

 The Reds scored five runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead, but in the bottom half of the inning the Giants answered with three runs of their own. Watkins (two runs) singled with one out and Scott doubled him home. Rosas drove in Scott with a single, and came around to score after three straight singles by Lewis, Alves, and Rudy Gutierrez. 

 Watkins pitched the final three innings for the Giants,  striking out five.

 Rosas did it all for the Giants.

 Rosas pitched five strong innings with nine strikeouts and hit a towering three-run home run in the Giants’ six- run second inning. 

 In that big second inning, Watkins (2 for 4, RBI, three runs) had an RBI single and Scott (2 for 4, double, two RBI, two runs) had a two-run ground-rule double.  

 Leading 8-3 the Giants put the game away in the sixth. Josh Ojeda, who had two nice catches in left field, walked and scored to lead off the inning, Yanez, (2 for 4, double, two RBI, two runs) hit a two-run double and Shane Lewis (2 for 4, two RBI) rounded out the scoring with a single that scored Rosas and Yanez.  Eight different Giants scored.

 

AAA 

Northgate Giants 12, Northgate Cubs 2 (5)

 The Giants scored five two-out runs to take a 6-2 lead they would not relinquish.

 In the Giants fifth, Ryann Medina (2 for 3, RBI, two runs) and Lincoln Coenenberg (2 for 2, two runs, RBI) had back-to-back RBI singles, driving in Izaias Rodriguez (two runs) and Drewv Patel (two runs) while Ryan Alves, (2 for 2, double double, two RBI, run) and Isaiah Ahio (double, RBI) followed with RBI doubles.

 The Giants struck for five runs again in the fouth. Shane Foreman led off with a single with two runs scored via walks. Noah Martinez (double, three RBI) then cleared the bases with a double to the fence. Eight different Giants scored. 

 Alves started on the mound and struck out five in 2.2 innings.  Shane Foreman relieved and went the rest of the way striking out 6 in 2.1 innings.  

 Dominik Garcia drove in Christian Jose for the Cubs. 

 

Giants 15, Cubs 4 (4)

The Giants put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning. Ryann Medina (2 for 3 run)  singled to load the bases and Coenenberg cleared them with a three-run single. Alves then singled and Ahio (triple, two RBI two runs) drove in Alves and Coenenberg with a triple to complete the scoring in the inning.  

 With the Giants leading 4-3 in the second inning Aeryk Snyder (two runs) started a two-run, two-out rally with a single and stealing second and was driven in by Drewv Patel (RBI, two runs)  Martinez followed with another RBI single to bring home Patel. 

 The Giants would strike with four more in the third. Coenenberg (2 for 2, three RBI, three runs) and Alves (2 for 3, two runs) opened the inning with singles. Two batters later Abel Garcia (three RBI) drove both in with a single.  Bryant Lewis also added an RBI single in the inning. Ten different Giants scored a run.

Coenenberg pitched 2.1 innings in relief yielding just one run, while Ahio struck out both batters he faced to end the game.

 

Manteca Majors

Cubs 5, Phillies 0

 Jace Quitasol and Isaac Acuna combined to shut out the Phillies        

 Quitasol allowed three hits and struck out six with no walks. Acuna threw the last three shutout innings. 

 The Cubs totaled eight hits and had a three-run fifth highlighted by Anthony Jiminez’s two-RBI double.  Acuna had an RBI single in the first inning. 

 Quitasol and Acuna were both 2 for 3 with an RBI and the Cubs did not commit an error. 

 Lorenzo Vargas singled for the Phillies.
