GIRLS SOCCER: Manteca High qualifies for finals of Buffalo Cup soccer tournament

Manteca High will play in the finals of the Buffalo Cup.
The host Buffaloes will take on Colfax in the championship game at noon today at Guss Schmeidt Field.
Manteca (5-0-1) opened with a 4-0 win over Calaveras.
Esmeralda Ochoa and Yehudit Vega, who were assisted respectively in the first half by Jordyn Silva and Melissa Poncini.
The Buffaloes made it 3-0 in second half on Jordyn Silva’s goal, which was assisted by Aleah Melendez.
Isabella Avila scored the final, with Emilee Craighead getting the assist.
Willow Stearns, who played goalie, came up with three saves.
Against Amador, Manteca scored a pair of late goals in that second game, 3-1.
Aimee Meier, who played goalie for the Buffaloes, had six saves and an assist.
Her punt helped set up Kaley Miller’s score, which, according to Manteca High coach Justin Coenenberg, came at the 15-minute mark of the second half.
An own-goal by Amador put the Buffaloes ahead for good.
Colfax beat Summerville, 2-0, and then held on for a 1-0 win over Mountain House to make it to the finals.

Sierra 4, Golden Valley 1

The Timberwolves can reach the finals of their own tournament today with win or tie against Livingston.
That game kicks off at 10:45 a.m. at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
Against Golden Valley, Tiana Cello scored twice while Nicole Martin and Preeya Singh added a goal each in Friday’s win.
Martin also had an assist.
Sierra (4-0), in addition, was helped out defensively by goalie Michaela Bitle, who came through with six saves.

Lathrop 1, Livingston 0
Defense was the name of the game for the Spartans, who put together a strong around effort led by their two goal keepers, Christine Solorio and Isa Panella.
Arya Jones broke the scoreless game, taking a pass from Kayla De Anda at about the 60th minute.
Lathrop will take on Central Valley at 10:45 a.m.

Atwater 7, Weston Ranch 0

The Cougars fell to the Falcons in the opener, with goalie Kehura Ellerbe getting four saves in the losing effort,

Weston Ranch 0, Buckingham 0
Ellerbe prevented Buckingham from scoring by coming up with seven saves.
According to Cougars coach Gabe Padilla, his team can earn a shot at the finals of the four-team Gold Group format with a victory today over Grace Davis.
Game time is 9:30 a.m.

Junior Varsity
Sierra 5, Livingston 0

The Timberwolves came away with a Group A win in the nine-team event on Friday.
They’ll take on West from Group B at 9:30 a.m. today.
