Godfrey powers Manteca with 26 points

WESTON RANCH — Manteca center Eric Godfrey terrorized Weston Ranch’s post Friday, collecting 26 points to highlight the Buffaloes’ 62-54 sophomore boys basketball victory.

The rest of the Buffaloes (10-4 Valley Oak League, 17-6 overall) managed to get in on the action despite Godfrey’s dominance. Rigo Gutierrez chipped in with nine points, while Taylor Hasal Matt Burrows and C.J. Rivas each pitched in eight. Hasal also dished out 12 assists, while Rivas pulled down nine rebounds.

Tau Cavil led three Cougars in double figures with 16 points. Jesus Fuentes added 13 points, and Lorenzo Simmons had 12.

Sierra 51, East Union 46
At Sierra, the Timberwolves (7-7, 10-13) were able to climb back from an 11-0 first-quarter deficit with a big second half.

Eddie Andrade led the comeback charge with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Grant Widmer pumped in 18 points.

“I was definitely not happy with the way we played in the first quarter, but I have to give our guys credit for battling back,” Sierra coach Justin Muschott said.

East Union 43, Sierra 29
At Sierra, the VOL-leading Pages of East Union dug themselves out of an 8-0 hole to start and cruised to victory.

Brandon Cline recorded 15 points to lead East Union (14-0, 21-2). Alex Del Rio contributed eight points, Brock Swift recorded six assists and Zac Carrillo ripped down nine rebounds.

Aneal Sahota paced the Timberwolves with 11 points; and Jojo Berry and Bret Wilson chimed in with eight apiece.

“We hung in there and just got stronger as the game went on,” East Union coach Brett Lewis said. “My guys just keep showing me more.”

Weston Ranch 40, Manteca 38
At Weston Ranch, Alante Lockett intercepted a pass on Manteca’s last possession to secure the win.

Will Cavil spearheaded the Cougars with 15 points, and Marlon Aumentado had nine. Coach Dan DeLeon credieted Demetrius Kelley and Yonathan Admussu for playing good defense.

Manteca was led by Kenny Gains’ 18 points
