RIPON — Ripon’s boys golf team expected a competitive Trans-Valley League match against visiting Hughson on Thursday.
It wasn’t close.
In  a contest needed by both teams to keep pace with first-place Escalon, the Indians put together their best outing of the season for a stunning 203-249 win at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club. Ripon, which improved to 5-2 in league, shaved 30 strokes off its previous season low on the course.
Nico Ilardi and Cade McCusker led the way with even-par 35s. Gage Anderson and Jacob Baird contributed solid scores of their own with a 41 and 43, respectively. Kenny Johnson capped off the team total with a 49.
Caleb Thornhill (3-2) finished with a 44 for Hughson, while Chase Shears added a 46.

Ripon Christian 209, Mariposa 259
AHWAHNEE — Only 10 strokes separated Ripon Christian’s first- and fifth-place scoring contributors in the Southern Athletic League dual match held at River Creek Golf Course.
Camden Indelicato finished as low medalist with a 1-over 36. Danton Indelicato came up a stroke shy of the leader, Darik Doek carded a 42, Dylan Koolhaus a 45 and Alec Berghorst a 47.
Mariposa was led by Matthew Fryer’s 43. Ripon Christian is now 2-0 in the SAL.
