Teejay Gordon scored 16 points as the East Union sophomore basketball team raced away from Central Valley in a 56-40 win.
Troy Hoffdahl added eight, as did Lawrence Baraan and Logan Miller.
“We had a big second and third,” EU head coach Jeff Lund said. “we had a good sense of urgency and we executed well. We took care of the ball and that was the difference.”
EU (6-7 Valley Oak League, 11-12 overall) heads to Sierra Friday.
Melvin Allen returned and provided nine points but it wouldn’t be enough.
Tau Cavil added 10.
The Cougars (4-8 VOL) held Sonora to 17 points in the final three quarters, but couldn’t erase a 21-4 first-quarter deficit.
Eddie Andrade led the way with 16, and both Jerrod Patton and Bryce Hicks scored seven for the T’Wolves (6-7 VOL, 9-13).
Sierra played well, especially on the defensive end and was within three points with less than two minutes left.
“We played the best team in the league tonight,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “We were down early, but battled back in the second half with great defense. Oakdale just made the shots when they needed them.
“I was very proud of our effort tonight.”
Sierra visits EU Friday.

The T’Wolves picked up their fourth in a row and the fifth of their last six behind 18 from Tim Thornton.
Bret Wilson had seven and Jojo Berry added six.
“We’re improving,” Sierra head coach Mahlon Lott said. “We still have a long way to go, but we’re starting to show signs of playing Sierra basketball.”
The T’Wolves put their streak on the line Friday at unbeaten East Union.
The Pages (22-2) moved to 12-0 in VOL play with a 22-3 fourth-quarter run that erased a five-point deficit.
Brandon Cline finished with 22 points on four 3-pointers, and Wayne Chung added 10.
Zac Carrillo had nine points and six rebounds, and Alex Del Rio had 12.
Will Cavil hit a bucket to send it into double overtime, but the Wildcats sealed it on free throws.
Weston Ranch led by nine at the break.
Dan Nelson had 16, and Marvin Aumentado added 14.
The Cougars (6-6 VOL, 9-8) host Manteca Friday.
