The Manteca Jr. Buffaloes varsity was a game away from the Cen-Cal Super Bowl and team president Kirk Allen thinks that 2013’s accomplishments success will breed success this season.
“Our numbers this year are really good,” Allen said. “Having that winning season last year for the varsity probably really helped. We have always had decent numbers but this year we are at capacity for two levels.
“Our varsity ended up going 10-1 and finished one game out of the Super Bowl.”
Those increased numbers should help fill some gaps from last year.
“The other levels fared well.” Allen said. “The JV was light on personnel so they did the best they could. The rookies are a learning level – you don’t keep score or anything like that – but they did well.”
In this the team’s eighth season, Allen hopes what is learned this year will lead to further success – both for the Jr. Buffaloes and beyond.
“The bottom line is we want everyone to learn something and have fun,” Allen said. “We would like to see our teams make the playoffs and maybe even the Super Bowl.
“We want the upper levels to learn so they can be ready for high school and the lower levels to keep coming back to get ready for the upper levels.
The Jr. Buffaloes go to Modesto Christian two Saturdays in a row to begin the season – first for a jamboree on Saturday, Aug. 23rd and then to open the 2014 campaign on Aug. 30 against the Modesto Broncos.
