Griggs shoots even par as Lancers swing past Sierra

Tyler Griggs shot an even-par 36 to lead East Union High past rival Sierra on Wednesday.

The Lancers won the Valley Oak League match played at the Manteca Park Golf Course, 239-267.

Jackie Thai led the Timberwolves by carding a 45.

East Union (1-1 VOL) received balanced scoring from the likes of Gabriel Espinosa (45), Dawson Mix (45) and Kyle Dorland (48).

Michael Erdman and Antonio Samson both shot 53 for Sierra (0-2 VOL). Damien Simon and Jose Munoz contributed with a 57 and 59, respectively, on the nine-hole course.

Ripon 198, Hilmar 250

The Indians defeated the Yellowjackets in a make-up match on Wednesday.

Ripon will return to Trans-Valley League action on Tuesday at Hilmar.

Baseball

Hillsdale 8, Weston Ranch 7

SAN MATEO – Hillsdale rallied for five runs in the seventh to squeak past the Cougars in Wednesday’s non-league game.

The Cougars (5-7-2), who pounded out 11 hits, took a 5-0 lead in the second and built up a 7-3 advantage late in the game.

The Knights (9-4) made the most of their final at bats while pulling out the win.

Weston Ranch has another non-league game scheduled for this week, traveling to Pittsburg on Friday.
