Griggs shoots par to help EU golf sink Sierra

Freshman phenom Tyler Griggs shot an even 37 at Manteca Park Golf Course’s front nine, leading East Union to a 221-278 Valley Oak League win over Sierra on Monday.
The Lancers (3-2) had the top three finishers in the dual match.
Ezra Lenhardt was the runner-up with a 39, and Kyle Dorland added a 41. Gabriel Espinosa and Lucas Couch each carded a 52 to round out scoring for East Union.
Sierra was paced by its No. 6 golfer Antonio Samson, who scored a 53. Others contributing for the Timberwolves were Evan Brazal (54), Damian Simon (54), Jackie Thai (58), Mike Erdman (59) and David Perry (59).

SOFTBALL
Manteca 10, Lathrop 0 (6) 
LATHROP – The Buffaloes’ Haighley Kissee struck out five of the six Spartans batters she faced to start the game Monday and set the tone for the Manteca’s Valley Oak League mercy-rule win.
Koryn Menasco came on in relief for the Buffaloes (2-1 VOL, 10-4 overall) and struck out four with four walks. Annalisa Garcia had Lathrop’s lone hit.
Vanessa Lopez (two RBIs) and Sierra Martinez were each 2 for 2 with two runs for the Manteca.
The Spartans fall to 0-2, 3-6.

 Weston Ranch 0 (5)
Delaney Pamplin and Shelby Cefalu combined for a one-hitter at Northgate Softball Complex.
Allie Tajii highlighted the offense, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Alexis Erich was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

East Union 0
STOCKTON — The Cougars (1-0, 6-2) held off visiting East Union for a 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 sweep in their VOL opener.
Kenneth Cha and Ryan Nepomuceno rapped out five kills apiece. Jarien Falcon dished out 16 assists, and Rence Santos collected 14 digs.

Sophomore
Manteca 14, Lathrop 0 (5)
Alyssah Harnden threw a five-inning no hitter for the Buffaloes with nine strikeouts and only allowed just one base runner by walk in the mercy-rule win.
Manteca’s RaeLene Finley was 3 for 4 with a double, four RBI and three runs. Teammate Ella Washburn was 2 for 2 with a RBI, two runs and two walks while Makenna Condit had a two-RBI single, scoring twice and walking twice. 

East Union 7,
Weston Ranch 0
Nadia Cardona and McKenzie Salgado (two RBIs) each went 3 for 3, and Chloe Agueda contributed with two hits and an RBI.
Kennedy Goodnough and Alexa Avalos each pitched three innings and combined for seven strikeouts.
