Alyssah Harnden came through for the walk-off hit, completing a late comeback for the Manteca softball team in its 12-11 win over visiting Turlock on Tuesday.
Harnden finished with three RBIs, and the Buffaloes (3-0) overcame three errors with 16 hits. Kaileah Johannsen led the attack with a 4-for-5 effort that includes a double, three runs and two RBIs.
“This was one of those wins you are just happy to get out of there with a win, because you know you didn’t play your best,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. “Defensively we were sloppy again today, but give credit to my girls for continuing to fight through adversity, staying positive and motivation each other to keep pushing ourselves for a win.”
It was an uphill climb throughout for Manteca, as Turlock rallied for the game’s first five runs in the top of the second inning. The Buffaloes jumped ahead 10-7 after a six-run sixth, but the Bulldogs answered with four in the top of the seventh.
Turlock racked up 12 hits and five errors in the defeat.
Isabella Gonzales (two runs, two steals) and Kaylee MacDannald (run) both went 3 for 5 for Manteca. Koryn Menasco struck out four in a complete game from the pitcher’s circle. Only five of the 11 runs she gave up were earned.

BASEBALL
Atwater 3, Manteca 2
ATWATER — Manteca piled up 10 hits but did not have much to show for it in the season-opening defeat.
“You expect good results when you have 10 hits and only give up four,” Manteca coach Neil MacDannald said. “We played hard, we just need to find a clutch hit here and there.”
The Buffaloes scored their lone runs in the top fifth. Atwater led 3-0 after three innings. Kyle Rachels went 2 for 3 with a double and a run. Starting pitcher Ryan Ward contributed a double and an RBI. Dylan Gross hit 3 for 3.
