Hilmar sweeps Ripon in rematch of SJS Division IV finals

HILMAR — With much of its top talent back on the team, Hilmar avenged last year’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV final-round defeat against rebuilding Ripon on Thursday with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-14 sweep.

Ripon (1-2 Trans-Valley League, 3-8 overall) was on the defensive for much of the match. Deven Stokes led the back row with 21 digs, while Jessica Stanley collected four blocks. Jordynn Russell and Makayla Buie paced the attack with seven kills and three aces, respectively.

Hilmar (3-0, 13-9) got 16 kills from freshman outside hitter Mikela Labno. Mariah Ahid added 14 kills and 20 digs, while fellow fourth-year senior Hannah Pearce accumulated 42 assists.

NEWMAN — The Knights (2-2, 3-7) came up short in forcing a fifth set, losing to first-place Orestimba (4-0, 8-7) 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 23-25.
