The Sierra High girls golf squad closed out the first half of Valley Oak League play with a 284-318 victory over cross-town rival Manteca High on Tuesday.

Leading the way was Tora Hohn, who claimed medalist recognition by shooting a 52 at the Manteca Park Golf Course, finishing a stroke better than the Buffaloes’ Kaitlyn Leppere (53).

Sierra (3-3) was also helped out by the efforts of Lexus Barnes (54), Brianne Lenoci (56) and Melanie Kiesel (59).

“As a team, we may not have shot as well as the last time but we did play with more consistency,” said Timberwolves coach Jack Thomson.

For Manteca, Kaylee Grimes shot a 57 in the front nine of the freshly aerated greens.

“The (Manteca Park) course is always kept in good condition,” Thomson added.

Sierra will host Sonora on Thursday.

East Union 241, Oakdale 254

The Mustangs’ top golfer, Mabel Wong, earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 40 in the front nine of the Manteca Park Golf Course.

But her score wasn’t enough to overcome the all-around effort of the Lancers led by Angelique Cardoza, who carded a 46.

Teammate Kimmy Lamar (47) finished one stroke back, and was followed closely by Jenny Ketner (49), Alyssa Telles (49) and Brittany Ugalino (57). In the process, East Union (5-1) handed Oakdale (5-1) its first VOL loss.

Kimball 264, Weston Ranch 276

The Cougars’ Janelle Mungcal fired a 47 at the Tracy Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

Her effort was a one stroke back of Kimball’s Lydia Nolan, who claimed medalist honor by carding a 46.

Weston Ranch coach Miguel Torrente also praised the efforts of his two newcomers, Rochelle Macatangay and Aimee Venega.

Venega shot a 58 while Macatangay scored a 59.
