Howley scores two as Lancers whip Ceres

The score wasn’t a good indication of how thoroughly the Lancers handled Ceres in a 3-1 win Friday night at Dino Cunial Field.

East Union outshot the Bulldogs 30-4, and had a number of impressive crosses that went for naught.

In the end though, Megan Howley scored a pair of goals (6th, 65th), both off assists from Kaci Todd, and Julie Lennert added a third goal (53rd) from Rachel Bonds and Alyssa Wegner, to seal the win.

“We were able to try some different positioning to keep an offensive threat up top while holding our own through the midfield,” EU head coach Jim Todd said. “I was really pleased with our play, we were able to execute some things that we intentionally practiced on Thursday.”

Lennert and Wegner were especially impressive in both the front and back ends, while Reanna Schmitt, Erica Aguilar, Selena DaSilva and Brittany Bertao excelled on the defensive end.

Taylor Maruca finished with seven saves.

“We’re healing as the season closes,” Todd said. “Despite our record, we’re fielding a competitive team and we’re poised to finish well.”

East Union will celebrate Senior Night at home Monday when Oakdale makes a visit.
The Lancers close on the road against Central Valley and Manteca.
