Hughson walks past Ripon in extra inning

HUGHSON – Hughson’s Ryan Bava drew the game-winning walk that lifted his squad to a 4-3 Trans Valley League victory over visiting Ripon on Friday in extra innings.

Hughson, which saw three ties with Ripon, improved to 3-2 in the TVL, 11-5-1 overall. The Indians dropped to 1-3 in league, 8-9 overall.

In the top of the first inning, Caleb Rogers gave Ripon the early lead with a sac-fly RBI that scored Fotios Jordanoglou for the 1-0 advantage. Hughson tied the game in the bottom of the first and went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third frame, the Indians’ Nick Price tied the game after crossing the plate on a Dante Machado RBI.

Hughson scored again in the bottom of the fourth, but Ripon bounced back in the sixth to tie the game again. The Indians scored their third run when Josh Clark scored on a RBI-double by Price.

Ripon, which will play against Downey Modesto on Monday at 4 p.m., walked in the game-winning run after the Huskies loaded up the bags in the eighth. Ripon had four hits, two from Price, one from Machado and another from Scott Robison.



Southern League

Ripon Christian 12, Delhi 2

Ripon Christian trailed by two runs after the first inning but eventually scored in each of their next five stanzas to end the game early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

RC, which improved to 10-0 in the Southern League, 13-6-1 overall, scored four in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Travis Vander Molen was 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Knights. Danny Vander Molen also went 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs.

David Henderson and Chris Saenz each tallied up two hits apiece with three combined RBIs. RC will resume SL play on April 23 on the road against Gustine at 3:45 p.m.
