The Ripon Indians came out focused in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Boys Water Polo Championships, blasting Pacheco High 17-2 Thursday in the tournament opener.

Ripon ended Pacheco’s season with relative ease, dominating the inexperienced club in every facet of the contest.

“You really can’t say how these boys will play until they are pushed against a team that is a lot tougher,” Ripon head coach Eric Zador said of his squad’s performance. “We’ve got Christian Brothers next and we’ve placed higher than them in a few tournaments, but we’re a different club now.

“If we play the way we should and all of them show up and play to their potential, I’m pretty confident that if they show up we should be able to move on to the final four.”

Ripon got an amazing effort from Nathaniel Gagnon who scored a game-high eight goals in the win. The Indians were also able to get freshman Carson Morrow involved, setting him up for some early success in the match.

The Indians will be back in the pool Tuesday with the meeting with Christian Brothers. A victory in the second round matchup will usher Ripon into the tournament’s semifinals.
