Ripon High’s softball team improved to 4-1 in non-league play with its 14-4, six-inning rout of visiting Ripon Christian Thursday.

The Indians previously drubbed their rival 16-2 on March 3. Their other two victories also came by 16-2 scores against Denair on Feb. 28 and Lathrop on Wednesday.

It didn’t take long for the bats to get warmed up Thursday, as Ripon went on a seven-run scoring rampage in the second inning. Two more were tacked on in the third, four in the fourth then one in the sixth to put the mercy rule in play.

Ripon Christian (1-3) plated all of its runs in the top of the fifth.

Senior hurler Kirsten Mortimer went all six innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits while striking out six. She helped her cause at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs driven in.

Ripon roped 14 total hits. Alissa Vickers scored twice and drove in two in her 3-for-5 effort. Nicole Kaiser hammered three hits, finishing 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.

Brianna Gall recorded three RBIs on her two doubles.

Ripon next hosts Central Valley of Ceres today, while RC begins its Southern League schedule at Waterford Tuesday.
