Indians remain perfect in TVL

Things have been going pretty smoothly for the Ripon High wrestling program, and after a bumpy start that pattern continued for the Indians in a 50-26 Trans-Valley League win over Hilmar Wednesday on the road.

Ripon (5-0 TVL) remained undefeated in the TVL grind, securing the win over Hilmar behind six pins and a technical fall.

“I was expecting to beat them, they have some really good individuals, but team wise I felt we had more depth than they did,” Ripon head coach Glen White said. “I was a little concerned at first, we started a little flat, but some of the guys really stepped it up and got us going.”

Andy Yciano dominated his 220-pound match, wining by pin in 27 seconds. Carlos Gutierrez was as impressive, pinning his opponent in 40 seconds. Both Edger Gonzalez and Taylor Fugit recorded first round pins in the 120 and 152-pound weight classes, respectively.

Trevor Smith won his 182-pound match, and standout Hailey Owens won her 112-pound match by pin in 2:53. Corey Goodwin was near perfect in his 16-1 tech. fall.

The Indians will try and close out the TVL season with a perfect record, but the team will have to clear the final hurdle on the road in a TVL-ending dual against Hughson.
