JV Buffs close with win over Sierra

The Manteca High junior varsity volleyball team closed out an impressive season with a 19-25, 25-16, 15-8 win at Sierra High.

Manteca got strong play from Jimi Guibor who chipped in 10 service points, six kills and three aces. Jessica Reeder closed out the season with a game-high 25 assists, while teammate Jessica Howard added three digs. Erin Kennedy had six service points and two aces, helping the Buffaloes finish the year on a high note.

“I was absolutely pleased with our performance this year,” Manteca head coach Bridgette Madden said. “We had a solid team and they all worked well together the entire year.

“We had a tough league this year, so I think we did quite well.”

Weston Ranch 2, East Union 1
The Lancers were able to pull out one, but the season finale would belong to the Cougars in a 25-17, 26-28, 15-5 win over East Union.

The Lancers got quality play from Megan Bautista who had nine aces, Krsiten Piasecki had nine digs and 10 assists in the loss.

East Union finished VOL play with a 6-10 record, while the Cougars had a tough 1-15 run.

Freshman
Lathrop 2, Ceres 0
The Spartans freshman volleyball team clearly has given the program something to build on with a solid end to the season in a 25-8, 25-17 win over the Bulldogs.

“Our team played awesome tonight,” Lathrop head coach Christina Fonseca said. “As a coach I was very proud of them.”

Ashley Chu paced the Spartans with eight aces and two blocks, while teammate Leslie Hernandez finished the contest with four blocks. Monica Brambia ended the season with seven aces, four blocks and two assists.
