Knights fall in SL opener

Ripon Christian got behind early to host Delhi on Thursday and lost 3-0 in Southern League soccer action.

Lukas Vermeulen mad a fantastic save for the Knights (0-2 SL, 2-7 overall) 14 minutes into the game but the Hawks (2-0, 3-4) capitalized on a failed clear and got the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead. Delhi was held scoreless from that point until late in the game.

The Hawks utilized a wide switching game for their offensive attack.

‘We had a tough time marking those switches,” Ripon Christian coach Keith Terpsma said. “But we took our halftime changing strategies, and it seemed to work better for us at the beginning of the second half.”



Linden 4, Ripon 1

The Indians (2-5) dropped a non-league road contest to the Lions 3-2-4.

Victor de la O scored the lone Ripon goal off of a direct kick at the top of the 18-yard box.

“It was a good, physical game and the perfect match to prepare us for season next week,” Indians coach Nichole Meyer said.
