Ripon Christian went into Monday’s Southern League opener at Waterford coming off a solid third-place finish in its own 32nd Annual Jerry Terpsma Classic.

The Knights hung tough for a half before falling, 3-0.

“My guys want that game back,” said RC coach Keith Teprsma. “I want that game back — I guess we wait until next time around. Now, we focus on Denair.”

Ripon Christian (0-1, 4-2-1 overall) had chances to take a lead in the first 40 minutes but couldn’t get one to the net. The Wildcats (1-0, 5-1-1) broke the ice in the 51st minute with a 35-yard free kick and pounced again just five minutes later. The final goal was recorded over the final minutes of the match.



Volleyball

Manteca 3, Downey 0

The Buffaloes (3-3) capped their nonleague schedule on a high note, grinding out two tough sets (27-25, 25-22) before putting Downey away for good in the third (25-11).

Ashley Gase anchored Manteca with 13 assists, four digs and three aces. Nicole Magnusson also contributed four digs and three aces, and Beth Aschenbrenner notched four digs of her own.

Julia Martinez led the front row with six kills and a block. Kijana Nichols’ solo block helped the Buffs seal the third game.

Manteca begins Valley Oak League play Wednesday at East Union.



East Union 3, Gustine 0

The Lancers go into their rivalry match with Manteca Wednesday with an even 3-3 record thanks to their dominating three-game sweep (25-23, 25-19, 25-8) on the road.

Alexis Steele swatted a team-high 10 kills, Alex Scopas hammered five, Courtney Posz handed out 12 assists and Kayla Lamont collected four digs.



Sierra 3, Stagg 2

After splitting four competitive games (18-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-22) with Stagg, the Timberwolves made the fifth a quick one with a 15-5 victory.

Allie Walljasper produced five kills, seven aces and three blocks. Valerie Nestor was a force at the net, coming through with four kills and five blocks. Sarah Gullett had 10 digs.



Sophomore

Gustine 2, East Union 1

The Squires (4-2) were defeated by a scrappy Gustine squad in their best-of-three showdown — 23-25, 25-16, 10-15.

Destiny Flores compiled 11 service points, five of which went for aces. She also set seven assists. Sabrina Hernandez and Estefany Hernandez each netted nine digs.



Stagg 2, Sierra 1

Sierra dominated the second game to extend the match before ultimately falling. Game scores were: 15-25, 25-8, 9-15.

Morgan Willis paced the T’Wolves with five aces, three digs and two kills. Megan De Groot added three digs, and Danielle Parham slapped down four kills.



Freshman

Nine of Carolina Ortega’s 12 services points were aces as she helped Sierra cruise to a two-game sweep (25-15, 25-10). Cecilia Salcedo chimed in with three assists and nine points.



Golf

East Union 211, Kimball 253

In Tracy, Brooke Riley posted a one-under 35 for low-medalist recognition at Old River Golf Course’s links-style front nine.

The Lancers (5-0) were solid up and down the lineup, and Kimmy LaMar (42), Angelique Cardoza (43), Jordan Vinson (45), Breanna Perkins (46) and Brittany Ugalino (47) checked in with sub-50 scores.
