Tonight marks the second straight year that both of Ripon Christian’s basketball teams will compete in the CIF Northern California Division V Regional Championships.

It’s the fourth consecutive NorCal appearance for the ninth-seeded boys team (23-5), which travels to Redding to square off with two-time defending Northern Section champion and No. 8 seed Liberty Christian (23-7). The No. 11 Lady Knights (20-7) are also hitting the road, as they encounter N. 6 San Domenico of San Anselmo, a small town in Marin County.

The boys contest is a rematch of a 2010 NorCal meeting won by visiting Liberty Christian in a 76-73 overtime thriller in which the Patriots overcame a 26-12 first-quarter deficit. Senior point guard Dan Vos was a freshman called up to the varsity for RC’s postseason run.

Liberty Christian is led by 5-foot-11 junior guard Joseph Lynch and 5-8 freshman Tyler Green, who scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, in a 56-48 section title-clinching win over Modoc. Sophomore guard Deontrey Fuller, 6-2 senior Terrel Fuller and 6-3 Wesley Franks are other key contributors. Odera Nwabi, a 6-8 freshman, gives the Patriots considerable length off the bench.

Ripon Christian is coming off a competitive 41-31 semifinal loss to Sac-Joaquin Section champion Capital Christian, the No. 2-seeded squad in Northern California.

The Ripon Christian girls, who also lost to a section champion in Brookside Christian in the semifinal round, take on a San Domenico squad that could only have five players available for tonight’s contest. With only six players listed on their MaxPreps roster, the Panthers could be without 6-3 center Aminat Oladunjoye (9.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.4 blocks), who went down with a knee injury during their 54-36 loss to International in the North Coast Section semifinals. San Domenico is led by 5-9 wing Sasha Nagler, the team’s lone senior who averages 16.7 points per game.
