The Ripon Christian volleyball club began its defense of the Southern League championship with a 25-8, 25-12 and 25-15 sweep of the Denair Coyotes Thursday in the league opener.

“This was a great way for us to start league,” Ripon Christian head coach Tiger Shelton said. “I was proud of the girls, they really did well.”

Kristie Van Diver led the Knights with seven kills, while Stephani Van de Pol contributed five digs and eight aces. Andie Shelton turned in a game-high 22 assists and Tegan Manus helped at the net with three blocks.

The Knights will take a break from league play over the weekend for tournament action in the Bay Area. The Knights are set to meet up with nationally-ranked Palo Alto in bracket pool play.

“We’ll definitely be ready for league play when we get back,” Shelton said.
