Knights outlast sharp-shooting Delhi

Sean Broker poured in 18 points, and Ripon Christian held off the hot-shooting Hawks of visiting Delhi for a 63-50 win in Southern League action.

The Knights (5-1, 13-4 overall) took an 11-point lead into halftime thanks to a 21-point outburst in the second quarter, but Delhi managed to keep pace by draining nine 3-pointers in the second half. The Hawks (3-3, 10-9) got to within five halfway through the third before a mini-burst to end the period put RC back up comfortably.

Broker had the hot hand for Ripon Christian, as he made eight of his 12 attempts from the field. He also reeled in seven rebounds. Travis Vander chipped in 12 points, Jake Schollenberg registered nine points, 10 boards and two blocks off the bench and Eric Broker grabbed 15 rebounds to go with his eight points.

It was a game ruled by underclassmen, as Ripon freshman Cole Stevens led the way with 16 points. Nino Ta-a and Alec Cano, both sophomores, had 15 and 11, respectively, for Hilmar (1-5, 7-14).

Reserve Bradley Clark chipped in 10 points for the host Indians (2-3, 4-15) as every player scored. Stevens buried two 3-pointers early to help Ripon stake an 18-5 lead and the rout was on.

Valley Oak League

Lathrop 63, Oakdale 60

Nick Obazuaye pumped in 24 points and nine rebounds for Lathrop (3-2, 10-7), which had trouble putting away the visiting Mustangs (1-4, 2-12) after leading 17-11 to start the second.

Isaiah Ellis contributed 11 points, while T.J. Conley finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.

Frankie Edu led the struggling Spartans (1-4) with six points.
