RIPON — The Ripon Christian girls volleyball team continued its rigorous non-league schedule Monday night, riding off with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-27, 25-18 statement win over Escalon.

Emily Van Groningen had the hot hand for the Knights (4-3), finishing with 20 kills and three blocks. Alexis Hilvers contributed with three and five.

Versatile setters Ariel Vander Woude (20 assists, 11 digs, three blocks) and Morgan Van Eleren (seven kills, 15 assists, blocks) were also instrumental in the victory. Charlotte te Velde tallied 21 digs.

Ripon Christian returns to action tonight back on its home floor when it faces Waterford to begin its defense of the Southern Athletic League championship. 

Hilmar 3, Ripon 0

HILMAR — The Indians (0-1, 4-3 overall) had a tough first assignment in the Trans-Valley League, falling to reigning champion Hilmar (1-0, 11-5), 18-25, 15-25, 12-25.

Caryssa McKeon and Brooke Kaiser racked up six kills apiece, Shannon Johnson distribute 13 assists and Bella Chapin recorded 15 digs.


Lathrop 3, Modesto 2

MODESTO — The Spartans (2-2) staved off defeat to come back for a hard-earned 18-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 15-10 non-league win.

Setter Jennifer Santillan had a busy night, finishing with 35 assists, nine digs and two aces. Hailey Hunter amassed 35 digs, and Desiree Ambatali had 16. Jahsita Fa’ali’i spearheaded the attack with 19 kills and two aces to go with 21 digs. Sydney Hanks hammered 13 kills, an Charlene Bernal added four.

Yellowjacket Invitational

DIABLO GRANDE — Ripon put forth a solid showing in the Hilmar-hosted tournament, placing second with a 333.

Freshman Gabbi Ilardi led the way with an 80, Bianca Toledo followed with an 81, Zoe Bremer an 82 and Kassidy Isham a 90. 

“I am really proud of the girls and how they played,” Ripon coach Eric Dambrosio said. “This is the best finish we have ever had at this tournament.”


JV volleyball

Lathrop 2, Modesto 0

Arianna Bringas an Camila De La Garza dished out six and five assists, respectively, as Lathrop swept, 25-20, 25-18.

Lylliana Avila crushed three kills, while Thracylie Acoba paced the defense with nine digs.


Escalon 2, 

Ripon Christian 0

Ripon Christian fell short, 18-25, 15-25.

Jenna Hofman rung up 12 assists and two aces, Avery McMurray pitched in four kills and six digs and Kendall Pounders added four kills and a block.


Frosh volleyball

Lathrop 2, Modesto 0

Lathrop swept 25-20, 25-18 behind Dana Mandanas’ 19 digs ad two aces.

Alondra Basulto contributed three kills, while Alejandra Vazquez an Mya Cabreros each had four assists.


Ripon 2, Hilmar 0

Avery McKiernan served six aces and had four kills to help the Indians prevail, 25-16, 25-15. 

Makayla Burrow contributed three aces and three kills. Erin Jackson chipped in five aces and four assists.
