The Southern League has not treated its newest member too kindly, as the Ripon Christian Knights ran into another one-sided defeat, 8-1 against visiting Gustine Tuesday.
Ripon Christian (1-6) found itself trailing in a hurry, spotting the Redskins six goals before the match made it to the intermission.
“Gustine took control of the game early on putting in six shots before halftime,” Ripon Christian head coach Keith Terpsma said. “Our guys played a more inspired game in the second half, now we need to really work on starting out with that spark.”
Gustine would punch in a pair more over the final 40 minutes, while the Knights were able to tally their only goal with a shot from Dylan Van Vliet.
Ripon Christian will try and improve its league record Thursday when they travel to Mariposa.
Ripon (2-2 TVL, 6-8-3 overall) got a goal apiece from Jared Berglund and Tamim Shetab for the offense, while goalkeeper Tim Combley fought back after surrendering a goal to Orestimba in each half. Brett Clark and Bryant Macias assisted on the Ripon goals.
Ripon’s next TVL trip will not come an easier, with a trip to Hilmar witing on the Indians. The Hilmar Yellowjackets are currently the league’s No. 1 team, sporting a loft 5-1 mark. Hilmar was tripped up in its last TVL match, when Escalon handed them its first league loss with a 3-2 defeat.
