Knights steal first game, fall in four

The Ripon Christian Knights got a stiff test in their season opener, battling before evenutally falling to Rocklin High 27-25, 18-25, 23-25 and 16-25 Tuesday in Rocklin.

Rocklin is the No. 1 ranked team in the entire Sac-Joaquin Section in the Maxpreps preseason rankings, giving the Knights a legitimate gauge early on in the season. Ripon Christian was able to grab the first game, but would only come close in two of the next three

“We came out and had 47 kills total,” Knights head coach Tiger Shelton said. “I’ve never had a team hit that well before. It was a well rounded match for us, we played some good ball. Rocklin is definitely good, there is no doubt about it.

“We’re a little bit further along than we have been in a long time.”

Andie Shelton led the way with 15 kills and 21 assists, while teammate Brittany Petlansky chipped in with 15 digs and 10 kills. Stephanie Van de Pol dished out 20 assists and three aces, while Morgan Alger added nine kills.

Cassidy De Rousse controlled the net with six blocks for the Knights and teammate Kaylie Colyn pulled out 13 digs.

The Knights will be back on the court Thursday with a match against the Escalon Cougars at Esclaon, followed by a visit from Stockton powerhouse St.Mary’s High Tuesday.
