The East Union Lancers couldn’t have asked for a better start to their 2011 baseball season.

The Lancers rallied through the first five innings to hand the visiting Patterson Tigers a 10-0 loss in five innings, with sophomore Jordan Kron accounting for half of the runs in his 2-for 3, five-RBI performance.

Kron smacked a three-run home run in the third inning and drove in two more runs with a single in the fourth that helped extend the East Union lead to 8-0 at that point.

“It was a good way to start the season,” East Union skipper Dan Triglia said. “We had solid pitching, good defense and timely hits today.”

Alex Diaz finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of stolen bases and a pair of runs.  Justin Diaz was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI.

On the mound for East Union to start the game was Steven Gigli, going three innings and allowing one hit while striking out four, walking two and hitting a batter. Brett Riley pitched two innings and allowed no hits, no walks and struck-out four.

East Union will take the field again on Friday when it hosts the Lodi Flames at 3:30 p.m.
