East Union’s girls soccer team battled Lincoln to a scoreless tie after one half of play, but got things going in the second, erupting for four second-half goals in their 4-0 shutout victory over Lincoln Wednesday.

Marissa King broke the tie with two goals in a span of three minutes. Meghan Wallace assisted the first goal and Kayla Lamont assisted the second.

Wallace would get in on the goals nest, converting on an assist from Gina Dias. Dias would notch the Lancers (5-0-2) final goal, turning in the score on a toss from Rose Wood. Ashley Almeida blanked the Trojans from the net, preserving the shutout with several second half saves.

“In the second half we focused on playing to feet and maintaining possession,” East Union head coach Jim Todd said. “I could tell our grass demanded an adjustment from their play on their familiar turf field.

“We were very pleased with the outcome.”

The Lancers will be back on the pitch Saturday with their three-team round-robin tournament with Pitman and Enochs. The weekend tournament will be the club’s final tune-up before opening the Valley Oak League season with a road test against the Sierra Timberwolves.
