Even when things don’t work out perfect they still work out for the East Union golf team as it overcame scheduling obstacles to win the Sierra Invitational golf tournament with a team score of 485 Wednesday at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

The Lancers got another sterling effort from Jackie Ketner who turned in a team-low 88 over the 18-hole tournament, while teammates Salina Tiscareno and Tori Souza turned in solid rounds to help push East Union to victory.

“Salina and Tori’s rounds were amazing,” East Union co-head coach Brian Goulart said. “They were the real difference makers for us out there.”

Souza finished the tournament with a 93, while Tiscareno closed out 18 holes with a round of 106. The Lancers’ 485 left them one stroke under second place Tracy High for the tournament title.

East Union had to begin play with out the assistance of its coaching staff, who dis not get word that the tournament was going on as scheduled after the course took a beating with Tuesday’s down-pour. The team showed up just in time for tee-off and took full advantage of its final tournament outing leading up to the Valley Oak League tournament.

“Considering our crazy morning trying to get ready for a tournament we thought was going to get cancelled,” Goulart said. “We played well. It was our first 18-hole match, so we feel good about our effort.”

Frances Telles scored a 97 and teammate Jillian Goulart carded a 100. Heather Craft rounded out East Union’s scoring with a 107.

The Lancers will look to use the invitational victory as momentum as they head into the opening stages of the 2009 postseason.
