The Lathrop girls soccer team opened the spring season with a 1-1 non-league draw against McNair-Stockton on Saturday.

Stephanie Maduli handed the Spartans (0-0-1) a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the second half off a goalie miscue. McNair netted the equalizer in the 56th minute after a shot sailed over Spartans keeper Cassandra Flores (six saves).

Lathrop only got eight shots on goal in the first half (10 total), and ‘most of the action was kept on the opponents’ side of the field,’ said Spartans head coach Gabe Padilla.

“I think we played a little sloppy in the second half due to the fact that the wind was in our face,” he added. “And we salvaged a tie. We should’ve converted on our opportunities in the first half and built a lead, but we didn’t.”
