East Union shot out of the gates Saturday with a 20-3 first quarter on the way to a 49-31 Valley Oak League girls’ basketball win over Oakdale at Dalben Center.
“The girls got off to a strong start,” Lancers coach Jim Agostini said. “We had some outside shots – we hit five 3’s – and I like our all-around team defense.
“They had 11 3-pointers against Manteca earlier this year and we had to guard along the arc – they only had one against us.”
Donja Payne had a monster double-double for East Union (7-4 VOL, 13-10 overall) with 15 points and 17 rebounds along with four blocks and a steal. Julia Vezaldenos led the Lancers with 16 points along with six assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Destiny Torio added eight points and six assists and Hailey Gosney tallied six assists.
The Mustangs fall to 3-8. 11-13.
