Lancers cruise in win over Cougars

The East Union girls sophomore basketball team wasted little time asserting itself against the visiting Weston Ranch Cougars, jumping out to a 26 point halftime lead on the way to a 55-26 Valley Oak League shellacking Tuesday.

The Lancers (9-4 VOL, 14-9) rode the hot hand of Allison Telles early on, as she turned in 14 of her game-high 16 points in the first two quarters. Kristen Piasecki added 12 for the Lancers, while Klacey Kachalkin and Kelsey Emerson both added seven.
Jakia Richmond led the Cougars with 13.

Oakdale 38, Sierra 16
OAKDALE – The Timberwolves were unable to get anything going on the offensive end, dropping their VOL contest with the Mustangs.

Ashley Edwart led Oakdale with a game-high 18 points in the win.

“We held them defensively in the second half,” Sierra head coach Martha Spivey said. “But we couldn’t make up any points on the offensive end.”

Kaley Bresina had five points and five rebounds for Sierra, while teammate Onyx Malone turned in four points, eight rebounds.

Weston Ranch 40, East Union 32
The Lancers fought valiantly, but could not keep pace with the visiting Cougars in Tuesday’s VOL action.

East Union was led by Laurel Hoppis 13 points, while Alyssa Gonigan finished with seven.
