East Union used a balanced attack Wednesday and hit 10 shots from beyond the arc, leading from the first bucket to the final buzzer to defeat McNair of Stockton 65-44 in non-league boys’ basketball action at Dalben Center.

“We have seven games in eight days so I tried to play as many people as possible to save legs,” Lancers coach James Ward said. “We shot very well tonight and that greatly helped us. And when we don’t shoot well – like the other night when we got throttled by 30 points – it doesn’t help us. It was a good overall shooting night.”

The first three baskets for East Union (6-3) were 3-pointers – the first by Parmbir Khattra followed with two by Christian Cuevas as part of a 12-2 barrage to start the game.

Cuevas (four assists, four steals and three rebounds) hit five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lead all scorers.

“We were shooting well tonight,” Cuevas said. “I think when we shoot like we did tonight we can play with anyone.

Cuevas was the only Lancer in double figures. Khattra (five rebounds), Austin Scott (five rebounds) and Asiah Scott chipped in nine points apiece with Khattra burying three 3-pointers and Austin Scott one.

“I was feeling pretty good tonight,” Khattra said. “And the team played really hard.”

East Union won the battle of the boards 33-29 with Khattra’s and Austin Scott’s five each leading the way.

Damon Tate led the Eagles (6-3) with 13 points.
