Lathrop, East Union split Camelot Classic titles

Powered by a 22-point third-quarter surge, Lathrop High sprinted past host East Union 54-44 to seize the Camelot Classic crown Saturday night at Dalben Center.

The Spartans (5-0) trailed 24-17 at halftime and buckled down on the defensive end to help spark a balanced attack. Brianna Fernandez led three Spartans in double figures with 14 points, Taylor Conley added 14 and Akilah Lesley chipped in with 10. Janessa Alejandro buried two key free throws in the fourth quarter to put the Squires (4-2) away for good.

All-tournament selection Marina Sayler poured in 15 points to pace East Union, which had played its fifth game in six days. Kayla Torio scored six points and was also picked for the all-tourney team.



Manteca 53, Sierra 25


The Buffaloes dominated the consolation final and shot 26 free throws to help pad the margin.

Sierra got eight points each from Kayla Honeycutt and Kristen Maestretti.

East Union 34, Lathrop 29


Rena Dragony rattled in 10 points to lead the Squires to the tournament title.

Destiny Flores was named Most Valuable Player of the three-day event, and Sam Gonzalez earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
