Manteca High’s Valley Oak League double-dual opener with Lathrop and Oakdale did not last long.

Defending league and Sac-Joaquin Section champion Oakdale came and went with landslide victories, and Lathrop dispatched the host Buffaloes 56-21 Wednesday at Winter Gymnasium.

Oakdale pounded Lathrop 59-12 and blew out Manteca, 57-12. The Mustangs’ only losses came in the 120- and 138-pound divisions by way of forfeitures.

The showdown between Manteca Unified foes started with a flurry but ended with a whimper, as Manteca forfeited five straight matches in the upperweights before Lathrop yielded six points with its own forfeiture at 285.

Standout freshman Alex Garcia started things off for the Spartans (1-1, 6-4) with a technical fall. Charlie Alvitre kept Manteca within striking distance with a first-period pin of Ricardo Aravzo in the 120-pound match.

Andrew Aquino (126) and Luis Oregel (132) posted first-round pins for Lathrop, and 152-pound Spartan Oscar Tapia edged out Josh Williamson 9-8 in the final live match of the evening.

Earning points for Manteca were Marcus Avila (9-2 decision, 138) and Matthew Quiroga (second-round pin, 145).

Lathrop also split the junior varsity matches, falling to Oakdale 51-24 before downing Manteca, 48-9.
