Lathrop wins RC soccer tournament

RIPON — Eight area teams got together for the Ripon Christian Soccer Tournament Saturday with the Valley Oak League’s Lathrop Spartans closing out play as champions in a victory over the Ripon Indians.

Host Ripon Christian fell to the Spartans 3-0 in the two clubs’ semi-final match up. The Knights would handle Forest Lake Christian in the consolation championship, edging Forest Lake 4-2 in penalty kicks after play ended in a 1-1 a regulation tie.

Ripon Christian hosted Lathrop, Ripon, Forest Lake, Escalon, Excel Academy, Bradshaw Christian and Orestimba in the one-day tourney.

Tournament champion Lathrop made an impressive run through tournament play, not surrendering a goal in three games while knocking off both Escalon and Ripon Christian 3-0. The Spartans would edge out Ripon in the title game on penalty kicks.

Ripon rolled to the title game on wins over Excel Academy (1-0) and Forest Lake (3-0) to earn the title game berth.

Host Ripon Christian opened with a 2-0 victory over Bradshaw Christian before falling to the tournament champion in a physical 3-0 loss before closing with the win over Forest Lake.
