Lathrop trailed the entire game Monday night and never threatened visiting Kimball in a 63-31 non-league girls basketball win for the Jaguars.

“We have work to do,” Spartans coach Dwayne Davis said. “We have a young team.

“We set up a powerhouse first part of the schedule, and we knew it was going to be tough, but we have a lot of basketball to learn and we have practice tomorrow. We are going to put in some work and see what we can learn so we can get better before league comes around.”

Shakara Porter led Lathrop (2-4) with 17 points and seven second-half rebounds. Ja’Leiyah Ray (three points) added 10 rebounds.

Kimball’s Emma Coronado led all scorers with 26 points and was the only Jaguar in double figures.

Kimball (4-0) of Tracy forced 27 turnovers and snagged 36 rebounds.

“That’s the main thing about this team,” Jaguars coach Gregory Bowie said. “Defense and rebounding.

“We are trying to make them aggressive.”

The Spartans travel to Stagg in Stockton on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 to open the Delta Queens Tournament.
