Christian Guzman did all he could to give Lathrop a chance, but his 2-over-39 score was not enough as the Spartans were nipped by Manteca 256-259 Wednesday at Manteca Park Golf Course.
It was Lathrop’s third Valley Oak League match in as many days and comes after setting a program record 227 on its home course at Old River. The Spartans finish the regular season with a 4-10 record.
Manteca (3-11, 4-13) won the finale thanks to the steady play of runner-up Ray Gallardo (44) and Ruben Hurtado (48). Dylan Haro and Nate Ibe each carded a 53, and Johnny White turned in a 58.
With Guzman leading the way, the rest of the Spartans struggled after several of them set personal records on Tuesday. Andrew Lorentz (51) Robert Berndt (53), Curtis Kimbro (56) and Robby Horrocks (60) rounded out scoring.
Up next is the VOL Tournament held at Saddle Creek Golf Course on May 2.
