MODESTO — Manteca is making it look easy against other Valley Oak League contenders.

The Buffaloes dispatched Central Catholic 25-16, 25-8, 25-20 on Wednesday, capping a dominant week that started with a quick sweep of cross-town rival Sierra.

“We look at all of them as tough ones,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “We feel that the league is better this year and anyone can win on a given night, so we better be ready for each one.”

The Buffaloes (4-0 VOL, 13-3 overall) showed their might in the second set, when Payton Reis rolled off 13 of her total 17 service points in succession. Rhiannon Genilla had a few emphatic kills during that run, finishing with a team-high 10.

“That really took the wind out of their sails,” Bolding said of the Raiders, who dropped to 2-2 in league and 6-7 overall. “Hopefully we can bottle up what we have been doing and keep it going.”

They’re doing it with a balanced attack anchored by setters Kaitlyn Morenzone (13 assists, five kills) and Kacy Bolding (10 assists, five kills). Reis added six kills and two blocks, while Sarah Inderbitzin chipped in with four and two. Emma Kadillak, Morenzone and Bolding each had seven digs, while Genilla led the way with eight.

TRACY — The Spartans (3-1, 4-4) remain in a second-place tie with Oakdale after picking up what is arguably their biggest win in program history, outlasting Kimball (2-2, 7-6), 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14.

After dropping the opening set, Lathrop led for most of the final three. It’s a big step forward for the Spartans, who was coming off a competitive three-game defeat to Central Catholic.

“We regrouped after the loss against Central Catholic,” Lathrop coach Heather Anderson said. “We calmed things down, played our game and didn’t let errors affect our play.”

Sophomore Jahista Fa’alii had a big night, finishing with 13 kills, five aces and 12 digs. Avleen Kaur and Juliana Denning added 10 and seven kills, respectively. Mary Cotton served five aces, and Harjass Kaur had four to go with 18 digs.
